System Description, Operating Principle, Technical Specifications, and Application Areas
Bottom labeling machines are specially designed automated systems that enable the application of labels to the bottom surface of products. Labels containing data such as production date, barcode, ingredient information, or traceability codes are precisely affixed to the bottom of the product.
These systems apply labels to the underside of the product as it moves along the conveyor, using a labeling unit located at the bottom. The labeling unit can work with transparent or opaque labels and perform high-speed, synchronized labeling.
Bottom labeling systems are particularly preferred for products with flat surfaces such as boxes, blisters, doypack packaging, and bottle bottoms.
Operating Principle and Packaging Compatibility
The labeling module is located beneath the conveyor. As the product passes, the system, triggered by sensors, precisely applies the label to the base surface. If necessary, it is supported by a pneumatic pressure roller at the bottom.
Packaging Type | Eligibility Status |
Cardboard Box / Blister | ✅ The most suitable form |
Doypack Packaging | ✅ Suitable (if it can stand upright) |
Jar/Plastic Bottle Base | ✅ Suitable (diameter must be straight) |
Round Bottles | ⚠️ Limited availability (must have a large base area) |
Conical / Irregular surface | ❌ Not suitable |

Why Should a Sub-Labeling System Be Preferred?
- ✅ Transferring information to the substrate without altering the product's appearance.
• ✅ Ability to transfer regulatory information such as barcode, lot number, and production date to the product database.
• ✅ Can be compactly integrated into automation lines
• ✅ High precision and speed thanks to HERMA applicator compatibility.
• ✅ Transparent labels enable "invisible information transfer".
• ✅ Compatible with a wide range of packaging types – particularly effective with boxed and pouch products.
• ✅ Traceability can be ensured with label printers and data verification systems.
